Why Book a Newborn Photography Session with The Story of You

Looking at a newborn photographer? Here is why you should book a newborn photoshoot

Welcoming a newborn into your family is one of life’s most magical moments. The tiny hands, the soft baby skin, and those precious first few weeks are a time to be cherished and remembered forever. One of the best ways to capture these fleeting moments is through professional newborn photography. At The Story of You, I understand the importance of these early memories and strive to create images that will last a lifetime. In this blog post, I’ll share why booking a newborn photography session with me is the perfect way to preserve your baby’s earliest moments.

1. Expertise and Experience in Newborn Photography

Newborn photography is a specialised art form that requires skill, patience, and an understanding of both lighting and baby safety. At The Story of You, I am experienced in working with newborns, and know how to create beautiful, serene images while ensuring your baby’s comfort and safety at all times.

Unlike other types of photography, newborn sessions are time-sensitive. Babies are best photographed within the first 14 days of life, as they are still in that sleepy, curled-up stage. I have mastered the techniques that make these early weeks so special, from posing your baby safely to capturing those little details, like their tiny fingers and toes, that make newborn photos so precious.

2. Creating Timeless, Sentimental Keepsakes

Newborn photography isn’t just about capturing a moment — it’s about preserving memories for a lifetime. Your baby will grow so quickly, and before you know it, they’ll no longer be the tiny bundle you bring home from the hospital. Booking a newborn photography session with The Story of You ensures that you have beautifully captured keepsakes to look back on.

Our high-quality prints and albums are designed to last for generations, giving you a lasting reminder of your baby’s first days. Whether you choose a framed print for your home or a custom photo album, your newborn images will remain timeless treasures that you and your family will cherish for years to come.

3. Customised Sessions Tailored to Your Style

At The Story of You, I believe that every family is unique, and your newborn photography session should reflect your individual style. I offer a variety of settings and styles to suit your preferences, whether you want something classic, simple, and elegant or more creative and whimsical.

From soft, neutral tones to vibrant backdrops, I work with you to create the perfect environment for your baby’s photo session. You can choose from various props, such as hats, blankets, and personalised items, to add a special touch to your photos. If you prefer a minimalist approach, I can focus solely on the natural beauty of your baby, with no props or distractions.

4. A Relaxing, Stress-Free Experience

The early days of parenthood can be overwhelming, so I understand that a newborn photography session may seem like a lot to organise. However, booking a session with The Story of You ensures a stress-free experience from start to finish.

The studio is designed to be a calm, relaxing environment where you can feel at ease while I photograph your baby. I take my time with each session, allowing your newborn to sleep and feed as needed. I am skilled at working with newborns and will guide you through every step of the process, ensuring you feel confident and relaxed throughout the shoot.

Additionally, I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your baby’s needs. If your little one is fussy, hungry, or just needs a nap, I am happy to work around their schedule.

5. Capturing More Than Just Photos — Creating Memories

At The Story of You, my goal is to capture more than just pictures. I aim to tell the story of your baby’s first moments, capturing the emotions, the tenderness, and the love that surrounds them. I take the time to understand the dynamics of your family and the connection you share with your newborn, ensuring that every photo reflects the bond between you and your baby.

From candid, heartfelt moments to beautiful posed shots, newborn sessions are designed to create a narrative of your baby’s early days. I aim to capture the little details that make your baby’s personality shine, whether it’s their adorable little smile, a curious gaze, or the soft curl of their hands.

6. Comfort and Safety First

When it comes to newborn photography, safety is my number one priority. I have years of experience working with newborns and am fully trained in posing techniques that ensure your baby is always safe and comfortable. I use gentle, supportive props and blankets to create soft, safe environments for your baby to relax in, and I always work at your baby’s pace to avoid any distress.

I also take care to keep the studio warm and cosy to help your baby feel calm and sleepy throughout the session. I understand that newborns can be unpredictable, and always give them the time they need for feeding, burping, or comforting. My approach is gentle and patient, so you can feel at ease knowing that your baby is in good hands.

7. High-Quality Products to Showcase Your Photos

At The Story of You, I believe that your baby’s photographs deserve to be displayed in the best way possible. Once your photos are ready, I offer a range of high-quality products to showcase your newborn images in your home. From custom photo albums to framed prints, these products are designed to preserve your memories for years to come.

A guide to Studio Dog Photography

What to expect during your studio pet photography session

I love dogs and have three of my own. Any dog lover knows that our dogs are much more than just animals; they’re cherished members of our family. Whether they’re snuggled up beside you on the sofa or bounding with excitement in the garden, our furry companions bring endless joy and love into our lives. That’s why many people come to me for professional photography to capture these special moments, creating memories you can hold onto forever.

At The Story of You, we specialise in capturing the personalities and quirks of your beloved dog in stunning studio photography. However, we understand that many pet owners may have questions or concerns about what to expect during a studio dog photoshoot. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about studio dog photography, from preparation to the final results. By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of what to expect and how to ensure your dog’s photo session goes smoothly.

1. Choosing the Right Photographer for Your Dog

The first step to a successful studio dog photoshoot is selecting the right photographer. Not all photographers have experience working with animals, so it’s essential to choose one who is patient, skilled, and comfortable with dogs. At The Story of You, I am specialised in capturing pets, ensuring your dog feels at ease and the photos turn out beautifully.

Before booking your session, be sure to review the photographer’s portfolio to ensure their style aligns with your vision. Whether you prefer natural, candid shots or more formal, posed portraits, it’s crucial that the photographer understands how to showcase your dog’s personality through their work.

2. Pre-Photoshoot Preparation: What You Need to Know

A bit of preparation can make a world of difference in achieving stunning results. Here are some things to consider before you bring your dog into the studio:

a. Ensure Your Dog is Comfortable

It’s important to bring your dog in a calm state, as a relaxed pet will make the photoshoot process easier for everyone involved. Try to avoid bringing your dog in after a long car journey or an intense play session. A good tip is to take your dog for a gentle walk beforehand to burn off any excess energy, so they’re more inclined to relax during the shoot.

b. What to Bring

While we’ll provide most of the props, there are a few things you may want to bring to make your dog feel more at home. This could include their favourite toy, a blanket, or even a special treat to reward them for their good behaviour during the shoot.

If your dog wears a collar or harness that you’d like to be in the photos, make sure it’s clean and free of any clutter. Some owners also bring along outfits or bandanas if they want to add a personalised touch to the photos. However, it’s essential to consider your dog’s comfort — not every dog enjoys wearing accessories, so always prioritise their wellbeing.

c. Grooming Before the Shoot

A fresh groom can enhance your dog’s look, so consider giving them a bath or brushing them beforehand. This will help them look their best and ensure their coat is smooth and shiny. However, avoid excessive grooming the day before the photoshoot, as this may leave them feeling tired or uncomfortable.

3. The Photoshoot Experience: What Happens During the Session

Studio dog photoshoots are designed to be a fun and relaxed experience, both for you and your pet. Here’s what you can expect when you arrive at The Story of You:

a. Getting to Know Your Dog

We understand that every dog is unique, and take the time to get to know your dog before the shoot begins. This allows us to adjust our approach based on their temperament. Some dogs may be shy and need a bit of time to warm up to the studio environment, while others may be playful and excited from the get-go.

I am skilled at working with dogs of all personalities and will make sure your pet feels safe and comfortable. I use positive reinforcement and calm, gentle handling to ensure your dog is at ease throughout the session.

b. Studio Setup

The studio will be set up with various backdrops and props to suit the style of the shoot. We’ll work with you to understand your preferences, whether you want a classic, minimalist backdrop or something more vibrant and playful. The lighting is crucial to capturing the best shots, and I use professional studio lighting to highlight your dog’s features and create stunning images.

During the shoot, I may ask you to assist with getting your dog’s attention — whether it’s through the use of treats, toys, or simply calling their name.

c. Patience and Flexibility

Pets, especially dogs, can be unpredictable, so it’s important to stay patient and flexible during the session. If your dog isn’t cooperating or is feeling anxious, we may need to take breaks or adjust the shoot to help them settle. Some dogs may take time to get used to the studio environment, and I am more than happy to give them the time they need to feel comfortable.

4. What to Expect After the Photoshoot

Once your dog’s photoshoot is complete, the next stage is post-production and delivery. Here’s what to expect after your session:

a. Viewing Your Photos

At The Story of You, we ensure that you get to view the best shots from your session in a convenient way. I will send you a link to your personalised branded viewing gallery to showcase the final edited photos. This is the perfect time for you to select your favourite images for prints, albums, or digital copies.

b. Photo Editing

All photos are professionally edited, ensuring that each image is enhanced to capture your dog in the best light. While I keep the natural look of your pet, I’ll make adjustments such as correcting lighting, removing distractions from the background, or sharpening your dog’s features.

c. Delivery of Prints and Digital Files

After selecting your photos, you’ll have the option to receive your images as high-quality prints or digital files. Prints come in a variety of sizes and formats, perfect for displaying in your home. Whether you prefer a traditional frame, canvas, or even a photo album, I’ll work with you to create beautiful keepsakes that showcase your dog’s personality.

To ensure you get the best possible results from your studio dog photoshoot, keep these tips in mind:

  • Relax and Have Fun: The more relaxed you and your dog are, the more natural and joyful the photos will turn out. Enjoy the experience, and your dog will feed off your calm energy.

Questions to ask your wedding photographer

Choosing the right wedding photographer can be tricky. I have put together a list of questions you might want to consider asking

Your wedding day is one of the most significant events in your life. From the moment you say "I do" to the final toast at your reception, every moment is precious and deserves to be captured beautifully. As a photographer, I understand the importance of selecting the right photographer to document your wedding day. To help guide you in your search, I’ve put together the top 10 questions you should ask a wedding photographer before you make your decision. These questions will ensure that you find someone who not only understands your vision but can also deliver the stunning results you deserve.

1. What is your photography style?

Every photographer has their unique approach to capturing moments. Some lean toward traditional posed shots, while others prefer a more documentary or photojournalistic style, which focuses on candid moments throughout the day. There are also those who incorporate a blend of both, balancing posed portraits with natural, unposed shots.

As a couple, it's important to ask about the photographer’s style and ensure it aligns with your vision for your wedding photos. If you prefer timeless, classic images, you may want a photographer who specialises in traditional portraiture. If you’re more into relaxed, candid shots, a photographer with a documentary style may be the right fit.

2. Can I see a full wedding gallery from start to finish?

It's easy to be swayed by a handful of beautiful images on a photographer’s website or social media, but you need to see how they document an entire wedding. A full gallery will give you insight into how they capture the entire event, from the details and decorations to the big moments like the ceremony, speeches, and first dance.

By asking to see a full gallery, you’ll get a clear sense of the photographer’s consistency and ability to capture every aspect of your day. Every couple who enquires with me is welcome to make an appointment to visit the studio to see full galleries of my work. Some couples opt for privacy and do not want their wedding images shared and I respect this.

3. How many weddings have you photographed?

Experience is invaluable when it comes to wedding photography. An experienced photographer will know how to handle any situation that may arise, whether it’s tricky lighting, unexpected weather, or last-minute changes to the schedule.

While every photographer has to start somewhere, you’ll want someone who has a solid track record in photographing weddings. Ask about the number of weddings they've shot, and consider how their experience aligns with your specific needs. If you're planning a large wedding with a complex schedule or lots of moving parts, you might prefer someone who has handled events of similar size and scope.

4. Are you the one who will be photographing our wedding?

Many wedding photographers work with assistants or second shooters, so it's important to confirm whether the person you’re speaking to will be the one taking your photos. If you like their style and personality, you’ll want to ensure that they, rather than an assistant, are the ones capturing the key moments of your day.

If a second shooter is involved, it can be a huge advantage. They provide additional coverage, capturing moments from different angles and ensuring additional important moments are captured. A second shooter can be added to any of my wedding packages. I do also sometimes have photographers with me wanting to gain experience in weddings. I discuss this opportunity, should it arise, with my couples ahead of time to ensure they are happy for this to happy.

5. What’s included in your wedding photography package?

Wedding photography packages vary widely, so it’s essential to understand exactly what you’ll be getting. Some photographers include an engagement shoot, while others may charge extra for this. Additionally, confirm whether your package includes edited images, a wedding album, or prints, and ask about delivery timelines.

Make sure there are no hidden fees, such as travel costs for destination weddings or extra charges for longer hours on the day. A clear breakdown of the costs and deliverables will help you understand exactly what you're paying for and avoid surprises later.

6. What happens if you’re unable to photograph our wedding due to illness or an emergency?

While this is an unlikely scenario, it’s important to discuss contingency plans. Ask your photographer about what would happen if they became ill or were otherwise unable to photograph your wedding. A professional photographer should have a backup plan in place, such as having a trusted second shooter or a colleague who can step in.

In the unlikely event that something does go wrong, knowing that your photographer has a solid contingency plan can help alleviate any concerns and give you peace of mind.

7. How long after the wedding will we receive our photos?

The anticipation of seeing your wedding photos is exciting, but you don’t want to be left wondering when they will be ready. Photographers typically take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to edit and deliver wedding photos, depending on their workload and the scale of the event.

It’s important to ask about their typical turnaround time and to ensure that it aligns with your expectations.

8. Can we customise our wedding package?

Every couple has different needs and preferences, so it’s worth asking whether the photographer offers customisable packages. For example, you may wish to book the full day package but not want 10 hours of coverage, I could look to reduce the hours and upgrade your album instead. Packages have some degree of flexibility in them and I work with my couples to ensure they have the best value for money.

A flexible photographer who is willing to work with you to create a tailored package can help ensure that you’re getting exactly what you need without paying for extras you don’t want.

9. Do you have insurance?

While it may seem like an odd question, it’s important to ask if the photographer has public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Insurance protects you in case of any accidents or mishaps, such as damaged equipment or if the photographer is unable to attend the wedding.

A professional photographer who carries insurance demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and a level of security that can protect both you and them. It’s a good sign that they take their work seriously and are prepared for the unexpected.

10. How do you handle difficult lighting or weather conditions?

Weddings don’t always take place in perfect lighting conditions, and you’ll need a photographer who can handle a variety of settings, whether it’s a dimly lit church or an outdoor ceremony on a cloudy day. Ask the photographer about how they manage challenging lighting situations or poor weather conditions.

A seasoned wedding photographer will have the skills and equipment to tackle these challenges and still produce high-quality images. Understanding their approach to problem-solving in such situations will give you confidence in their ability to adapt to any circumstances.

Conclusion

Choosing the right wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding. By asking the right questions, you can ensure that you’re hiring someone who is not only talented but also reliable and professional. It’s crucial to find a photographer who understands your vision and is able to bring it to life with skill and creativity.

By taking the time to ask the right questions and evaluate your options carefully, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your day, knowing that the memories will be captured beautifully for years to come.

Why choose Wortley Hall as your Wedding Venue

The Stunning Wortley Hall is a perfect place for your wedding

As a photographer who has had the privilege of capturing weddings in countless beautiful venues, Wortley Hall holds a special place in my heart. Nestled in the heart of South Yorkshire, this historic country house offers the perfect blend of timeless elegance and natural beauty, making it an ideal choice for couples looking to make their wedding day truly unforgettable. From the moment I step through its doors, I know that I’m about to witness a celebration that’s as unique and charming as the venue itself.

In this article, I’ll share why Wortley Hall is a wedding venue that stands out—through the eyes of a photographer. From its stunning architecture to the picturesque gardens, here’s why I believe it’s one of the best venues to capture the magic of your big day.

1. A Historic and Majestic Setting

Wortley Hall is a Grade II listed building, and its grandeur immediately makes an impression. The moment you arrive, you’re greeted by towering trees and sweeping lawns that lead up to the stately entrance of the hall itself. This grand, historic setting provides the perfect backdrop for wedding photography.

As a photographer, I can’t help but feel inspired by the mix of classic architecture and modern elegance. The grandeur of the Hall’s interiors, with its high ceilings, opulent chandeliers, and period features, creates a timeless atmosphere. Whether capturing portraits in the grand staircase hall or shooting candid moments in the various rooms, Wortley Hall offers endless opportunities to frame the perfect shot.

There’s something truly magical about shooting weddings in venues with such rich history. Every corner of Wortley Hall tells a story, and that story is beautifully captured in photos—whether it’s the intricate woodwork of the ballroom or the striking architecture of the outdoor spaces.

2. Stunning Gardens for Picturesque Outdoor Shots

One of the key features that sets Wortley Hall apart is its sprawling, well-maintained gardens. The estate boasts a variety of lush outdoor spaces, each with its own character, providing couples with an array of stunning settings for wedding photos.

As a photographer, I absolutely love the versatility of these gardens. From the formal, manicured lawns to the more natural, woodland areas, there’s a spot for every kind of shot you could want. The beautiful rose garden, with its fragrant blooms, makes for a dreamy, romantic backdrop. Meanwhile, the tranquil woodlands offer a more intimate setting, perfect for those quieter, more reflective moments.

Whether you’re looking for a grand shot of your wedding party against the grand estate, a quiet moment with your partner surrounded by greenery, or a playful photo amidst the wildflowers, Wortley Hall’s gardens can deliver it all. The sheer variety of natural spaces gives couples flexibility in their photos while ensuring that no two wedding albums will look the same.

3. Versatile Spaces for Every Type of Wedding

Wortley Hall offers a range of versatile spaces that can be tailored to suit the style and vibe of any wedding. Whether you’re planning a grand, opulent affair or a more intimate celebration, there’s a room that will fit the bill.

The ballroom is perfect for couples looking for a traditional, grand wedding. With its chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows, the room is flooded with natural light, creating an ideal environment for wedding photos. As a photographer, I love the way the light dances through the windows, casting soft shadows and highlighting the intricate details of the room.

For more intimate weddings, the Hall also offers smaller, cosier spaces that exude charm and character. The drawing rooms and lounges, with their elegant décor and inviting atmosphere, are perfect for capturing more intimate moments between the couple and their guests.

As a photographer, I always appreciate venues that offer flexibility in their spaces. Wortley Hall provides just that, allowing couples to create a day that reflects their personal style, while also ensuring plenty of beautiful locations for photos throughout the day.

4. A Peaceful, Private Setting

One of the main reasons couples choose Wortley Hall as their wedding venue is its sense of seclusion. Nestled in 26 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland, the Hall offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The venue’s tranquil setting is ideal for couples who want to feel like they have the entire world to themselves on their special day.

This seclusion is also a huge benefit when it comes to wedding photography. The grounds offer a sense of privacy, allowing couples to enjoy their day without the interruption of strangers or bystanders. For me, as a photographer, this means I can capture genuine moments without worrying about passers-by or intrusive elements. The secluded nature of Wortley Hall gives me the freedom to get creative with my shots, knowing that the couple’s privacy is respected throughout.

5. Experienced Staff and Attention to Detail

Another standout feature of Wortley Hall is its exceptional service. The experienced team at Wortley Hall is dedicated to ensuring that every detail of your wedding runs smoothly, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. As a photographer, this is incredibly important. The more organised and seamless the day is, the better I can do my job, capturing natural moments without any stress or interruptions.

The staff at Wortley Hall go above and beyond to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for the couple and their guests. From coordinating the timing of key events to making sure that everything is in place for your photos, the attention to detail is second to none. This level of care ensures that couples can focus on what really matters: enjoying their special day, surrounded by loved ones.

6. Perfect for Year-Round Weddings

While many couples choose to marry in the warmer months, Wortley Hall is a fantastic choice for year-round weddings. The stunning gardens make it an ideal summer venue, but its indoor spaces are just as magnificent during the colder months. Whether it’s the crackling fires in the winter or the beautiful natural light streaming through the windows in the spring and autumn, Wortley Hall offers a versatile setting no matter the season.

From a photographer’s perspective, this means I get to work with a venue that can adapt to different seasonal styles. I can capture soft, golden light during summer sunsets or take advantage of the cosy atmosphere of winter weddings. Wortley Hall’s ability to provide such a variety of looks across the seasons is one of the reasons it’s such a desirable venue for weddings all year round.

7. Memories That Last a Lifetime

Above all, Wortley Hall offers couples the opportunity to create lasting memories in a truly magical setting. As a photographer, there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing that the images I capture will be cherished for years to come. Whether it’s a candid moment in the garden or a grand portrait in the ballroom, Wortley Hall provides the perfect canvas to capture the love, laughter, and joy of your wedding day.

Conclusion

Choosing the right venue for your wedding is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Wortley Hall, with its historic charm, stunning gardens, versatile spaces, and exceptional service, provides everything you need for a day that’s as memorable as it is beautiful. From a photographer’s perspective, it’s a dream venue that offers endless opportunities for capturing magical moments. Top Tips for your Dog Photoshoot

Looking for some top tips for your dog photo shoot, find out how to get the most from the session

As a photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing a wide range of subjects from couples and families to newborns and weddings but there’s something incredibly special about photographing dogs. Whether it’s a playful puppy, a wise old companion, or somewhere in between, dogs have a unique ability to convey personality through their eyes and expressions.

I’ve put together this guide to help you prepare for your dog’s photoshoot. From managing your dog’s energy to choosing the right location, these top tips will ensure that both you and your four-legged friend have a stress-free, enjoyable experience and, of course, come away with some beautiful photographs!

1. Plan Ahead and Be Patient

The first thing you’ll need for a successful dog photoshoot is patience. Unlike humans, who can follow directions and hold a pose, dogs have their own agenda. They may run around, get distracted by smells, or just want to sit and look at you rather than follow your instructions. This is completely normal, and one of the reasons why dog photography requires a more relaxed approach.

Before the session, plan ahead by considering your dog’s temperament and energy levels. Are they typically relaxed or full of energy? If they’re an excitable pup, a few quick bursts of energy can actually work to your advantage for action shots just be sure to give them time to settle in between. For older dogs or those who are more laid-back, you may need to engage them with some treats or their favourite toys to get them looking alert and interested.

2. Choose the Right Location

The location of your dog’s photoshoot can make all the difference in the final images. The setting should reflect your dog’s personality, and the background shouldn’t distract from the main subject. For example, if you have a playful puppy, a park or a grassy field with lots of space for running around is ideal. For a more serene, calm dog, a quiet spot with soft, natural light, like a garden or even inside your home, can be perfect.

Here are a few location ideas to consider:

  • Outdoor spaces: Parks, beaches, woods, or gardens are excellent for capturing natural and candid moments. These locations allow your dog to roam freely, which often results in more relaxed and authentic photos.

  • Indoor settings: If your dog is not too comfortable outside, or if you want to capture more intimate, close-up portraits, a well-lit indoor space works wonders. A simple backdrop or a favourite spot in your home can create stunning results.

  • Studio sessions: For a more controlled environment, I offer dog photography sessions in a studio, where the lighting and background can be adjusted to suit the look you're going for.

3. Use Natural Light Whenever Possible

Lighting is key to any good photograph, but for dogs, natural light often works best. The soft, diffused light you get on an overcast day or the golden hour light at sunrise or sunset creates a warm, flattering effect. If I am shooting indoors, I will position your dog near a window to take advantage of the natural light coming in.

When in the studio I use a mixture of flash and continuous lighting to create the desired look.

4. Keep Them Comfortable and Calm

A calm, comfortable dog will give you the best chance of capturing beautiful images. Before the photoshoot, ensure that your dog is well-rested and has had a chance to play or take a walk. If they’re too energetic, they may become distracted or have difficulty focusing on the photoshoot.

If we are shooting outdoors, it is a good idea to make sure the location is safe and free of hazards. Watch out for busy roads or other animals that could distract or stress out your dog. Having a favourite blanket or cushion can also provide a familiar spot for them to relax on during indoor shoots, helping them feel at ease.

Remember, it’s essential to take breaks when needed. Let your dog have a few minutes to rest, drink water, and stretch their legs. This ensures that they don’t become overwhelmed and that you get the best possible results from the shoot.

5. Capture Their Personality

One of the things I love most about dog photography is the ability to capture the unique personality of each dog. Whether your dog is mischievous, shy, regal, or goofy, the images should reflect what makes them special. To get these shots, try to observe your dog’s natural behaviours and interactions. Are they playful and affectionate, or do they have a favourite activity they love doing? You can incorporate their favourite toy, a treat, or their best-loved pastime into the shoot.

A great way to showcase their personality is to capture candid moments. Dogs have a knack for doing the most charming things when they’re not being posed, so some of the best shots happen when your dog is simply being themselves. Whether it’s chasing a ball, rolling in the grass, or just staring into the distance with that thoughtful look, candid moments are always the ones that bring out the true essence of your dog.

Dog portrait

6. Bring the Right Props

Props can add an extra layer of creativity and interest to your dog’s photoshoot, but they should never overwhelm the main subject. Keep the props simple and relevant to your dog’s personality. For example, a personalised bandana, collar, or even a favourite toy can help tell the story of your dog in a meaningful way. Just be sure that whatever props you choose, they don’t cause your dog any discomfort or distraction.

7. Use Treats and Positive Reinforcement

Dogs are motivated by treats and positive reinforcement, so it’s essential to have some on hand during the shoot. A few treats can help encourage your dog to look in the right direction, strike a pose, or even capture a playful moment. Just make sure to use treats that are easy to give quickly without causing too much distraction.

If your dog is particularly excitable or distracted, you can even use their favourite toy as a prop to get them focused. Tossing the toy a few times can also create dynamic action shots, capturing your dog in motion. It’s all about making the experience enjoyable and fun for both you and your dog.

8. Have Fun!

Above all, the most important thing to remember is to have fun. Your dog can sense your energy, so if you’re enjoying the process, they will likely have a better time, too. Relax, take your time, and don’t stress if things don’t go according to plan. Some of the best photographs happen when you least expect them, and capturing the playful, loving bond you share with your dog is what makes the photos truly meaningful.

Conclusion

A dog photoshoot is a wonderful way to preserve your pet’s personality and capture the special moments you share together. I offer both studio and location sessions, so what are you waiting for book your session today!
